Mercedes reveals 2014 S63 AMG 4MATIC, a 577-hp luxury suite

"When hunters need a vehicle for their excursions, the first choice tends to be a heavy-duty pickup — think an old Ford F-250 equipped with a viewing box on the bed, a few gun holders within, a beer cooler, and for the fancy even a camouflaged paint job. Parker Brothers Concepts, creator of pro-wrestler John Cena's Incenarator from this year's Gumball 300, decided to take that concept a step further, building what it calls The Boss Hunting Truck and billing it as "the luxury hunting truck of the future." If you want to hunt in opulence, (and who doesn't?) the cost of this truck will set you back as much as a nice house. The Boss Hunting Truck starts at $200,000, but by ticking various options, it will quickly rise to $500,000. Based off a Hummer H1 K10 Series, the Boss Hunter sports a tuned 6.5-liter turbo diesel meshed to its four-wheel drive system. The body and bumpers are completely redesigned, leaving a result that appears less militarian and more "War of the Worlds." Or the ultimate Sasquatch hunter. The truck was designed and built by Parker Brothers Concepts specifically for hunting expeditions in search of large game in Africa, Alaska, falconing in the Middle East, and for Will Smith in "I Am Legend." (Not sure Will got the memo.) Inside E.T's worst nightmare sits an abundance of leather with "The Boss" decals and a custom steering wheel. Five monitors for six external cameras are equipped, along with a CB radio and internal gun holsters with additional storage for ammo. The shop will also add a drone plane with iPad control and camera feed for "live viewing" of any extant deer, squirrels or chupacabra, if you so desire. Additional gun storage can also be optioned, as can a magnetically interchangeable exterior camo design. The suspension has been specifically constructed for the truck, and monster 44-inch Super Swamper wheels with inflate/deflate capability come attached, ideal for conquering any terrain. Two 12,000 lb. winches adorn to the front and rear bumpers, too — ideal for rescuing those that can't go as far. Parker Brothers is currently selling these big game (alien? human?) hunting trucks from their Melbourne, Fla. shop. Quite how the price tag can vary $300,000 based on the seemingly few available options sparks quite the mystery. One thing remains clear, however: if you come across this truck hiding surreptitiously in the woods, you'd better hope to be freshly shaven. It would suck to be mistaken for Sasquatch. Photo: Parker Brothers ConceptsAs night follows day, the AMG version of a new Mercedes-Benz model now inevitably arrives a few beats later, and in that new tradition Mercedes revealed today the 2014 S63 AMG 4MATIC, the high-powered version of its new S-Class sedan. Of course its faster than its predecessor, and its 577-hp, 5.5-liter V-8 engine provides more power than any of its drivers will ever need. But will they even need to drive? As befits the top of Mercedes' passenger-car model line, the S63 AMG will come with every technical trick and gadget known to Daimler's engineering corps, from two-piece carbon ceramic brakes to a lithium-ion battery for engine starts and even a spare tire recess made of carbon fiber to save weight. (Another AMG first: Never has an automaker boasted about how it built the spare-tire holder). With 664 lb-ft of torque twisting through a seven-speed automatic to all four wheels, the bruiser AMG can hustle to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, or one-tenth slower than the upcoming 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray. Drivers will be able to choose various suspension and transmission settings to change the S63's nature from boulevard cruiser to drag-race blunderbuss. And yet. Much of the S-Class's technology goes toward doing things drivers handle without help today. In the best scenario, the S63 takes care of the mundane wheel chores and lets the lucky owner enjoy themselves to the fullest. In the least-best option, all of those electronic aids never fully get out of the way, pulling back on some of the pleasure a 577-hp car should carry. There will be only one way to find out which course Mercedes chose — and we'll tell you as soon as we drive it."
